The Five Paths to Leadership℠
Leadership in higher education matters now more than ever. In this session, you will learn what constitutes outstanding leadership, including the qualities, characteristics, experiences, and expertise amazing leaders possess. You will also engage in an activity to demystify leadership qualities and assess those you already have—as well as those you want to build.
Behind the Scenes: Leadership Insights Across Campus
During this session you’ll have a chance to pull back the curtain and hear from our speaker panel to better understand their daily life as leaders. Our speakers have a variety of backgrounds including traditional faculty roles, athletics, student affairs, enrollment management, and work in the office of the provost and president. They’ll speak to the nuances of different institutional types including their experiences at community colleges, R1 institutions, and traditional 4-year public and private institutions.
Deepening Self-Awareness: Cultivating Curiosity and Compassion for Effective Leadership
In this interactive session, you'll explore techniques to deepen your self-awareness, cultivate curiosity, and enhance compassion in your leadership practice. Learn five essential questions to ask yourself when you're activated and engage in discussions and exercises to apply these insights effectively. We will also focus on supporting yourself and others through the experience commonly known as “imposter syndrome,” offering strategies to recognize and address self-doubt in your team members, while understanding the systemic factors that contribute to these feelings. By the end of the session, you’ll be equipped with tools to foster personal growth, empathy, and confidence for both yourself and those you lead.
Courageous Leadership: A Model for Leading from the Middle
During this session, we’ll explore the essential qualities that define effective and principled leadership from the middle to help us navigate the balancing acts of being a higher ed leader.
A Leader’s Guide to Navigating Difficult Conversations
During this session, we’ll learn how to navigate challenging conversations with direct reports, focusing on effective communication techniques, empathy, and conflict resolution to foster a positive and productive work environment. Participants will learn to address issues, provide constructive feedback, and resolve conflicts with confidence and professionalism.
Building Your Leadership Skill Set Concurrent Sessions
In these concurrent sessions, you will have the opportunity to work in small groups to build your leadership skill set. You can choose 3 topics that you’re most interested in, allowing you to tailor your experience to your specific needs and goals. Each session is designed to offer practical tools, interactive exercises, and peer insights to enhance your leadership effectiveness and drive your professional growth.
Creating Your Leadership Development Plan
In this session, you'll craft a personalized leadership development plan. We will guide you through setting goals and outlining steps to achieve them so that you leave with a clear, actionable roadmap that aligns with your career aspirations and enhances your leadership capabilities.
Build on Your Learning with Next-Level Leadership Coaching
Supplement what you’ve learned at the conference and help yourself stay accountable to your plan with an Academic Impressions coach. We’ve worked with hundreds of women in leadership to help them advance their careers, develop new leadership skills, and achieve their goals. If you’re interested, select the option to add in 6 sessions of next-level leadership coaching for $2,400 when you register.

This program is for current and aspiring higher education leaders who identify as women. If you are new to your leadership role and looking to grow your skills, you will gain specific leadership tips and strategies to implement right away.
