Les Cook
Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer, Montana Technological University
Les Cook is a transformative leader with nearly four decades of experience advancing academic excellence, institutional strategy, and student success. Known for his intentional and student-centered leadership style, Les prioritizes strategic growth, financial sustainability, and impactful partnerships.
Under his direction, Montana Tech has launched its second Ph.D. program, introduced innovative STEM degrees, approved seven micro-credentials in extractive technologies, and achieved the largest first-year class in 14 years. His leadership emphasizes purpose-driven strategies that drive enrollment growth, enhance student success initiatives, strengthen campus infrastructure, and inspire unprecedented philanthropic support.
Previously, Les served at Michigan Technological University in key leadership roles, including Vice President for Strategic University Partnerships. Beyond campus, he has held national leadership positions as a board chair, regional vice president, and conference facilitator with organizations such as NASPA, NODA, and the LeaderShape Institute. He currently serves as Chair of the Frontier Athletic Conference of the NAIA.
