Learn effective practices to inspire trust and move your team forward together.

Overview

In the aftermath of the “Great Resignation” maintaining and supporting intact teams has become more difficult than ever before. Furthermore, dwindling budgets and decreased confidence about the viability of campuses of all sizes can make the willingness and ability of campus leaders to continue to motivate and manage teams feel daunting.

This conference is designed to provide leaders and teams with a toolkit to enhance psychological safety and improve outcomes among teams at all levels. With a focus on building trust, enhancing communication, understanding intersectionality and utilizing Academic Impressions’ Five Paths to Leadership Self-AssessmentSM, participants will have the opportunity to do the following throughout the conference:

  • Identify aspirational goals for your team
  • Create a plan for meaningful connection among those you lead
  • Assess psychological safety and develop skills to maintain honesty and vulnerability among colleagues
  • Strengthen your understanding of effective leadership and followership
  • Build a network of colleagues to help you navigate the complexity of managing teams with disparate personalities, motivations, and experience levels.

To preserve an intimate and productive experience, this conference is capped at 30 attendees.

Who Should Attend

This conference is ideal for professionals who currently lead and/or participate as members of a team. If you work alongside other unit leaders and share leadership responsibilities, consider attending together so that all those involved in leading the team can benefit from this content. As such, Deans are encouraged to bring their Associate Deans, Provosts are encouraged to attend with their leadership team, and Presidents are encouraged to attend with their cabinets. Multiple members of an intact team attending together will experience the greatest results.

Agenda

Day 1

The Five Paths to Leadership Self-Assessment℠
In this opening session, you will have the opportunity to examine and analyze the results from your “Five Paths” leadership self-assessment to identify your unique leadership strengths under both normal circumstances and under stress.

Defining Leadership
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to leadership. Leadership is contextual and situational, and ultimately the most successful approach is authentic to the leader. In this session, we’ll explore the differences between management and leadership, identify the qualities, skills, and actions embraced by effective leaders, and create personalized definitions of leadership that are unique to each individual.

Networking Reception (included in registration fee)

This informal reception is your chance to decompress, have some refreshments on us, and expand your network of connections. Our programs are intentionally designed for smaller groups, so this is a great time to catch up with attendees and speakers you may not have connected with yet.

Day 2

Day 2 Reflect & Reset of Day One

Developing Trust Across Difference
This session will give you an opportunity to reflect on the messages you have learned over time about how to engage in conversations about personal frustrations at work. You will practice intentional engagement versus moving past uncomfortable scenarios and arrive at a place where you are more willing to actively take part in solution-oriented conversations—even when they are uncomfortable.

Difficult Conversations are Necessary… Not Unkind
Identify and practice new communication strategies for overcoming subconscious messages that may influence your engagement in conversations you deem uncomfortable. You’ll receive tools to help to continuously uncover and deepen your understanding of personal conversation blockages.

Emotional Table Setting
This session will guide participants in the self-reflective and meaningful process of identifying personal boundaries for healthy dialogue when the stakes are high and team capacity for discomfort is low.

High-Performing Teams & Psychological Safety
In this session, we’ll examine seven practices used by high-performing teams—including ways to ensure that everyone’s voice is included in the conversation, how they make decisions, how they support creative and innovative thinking, and more.

Action Planning/End-of-Conference Deliverables
As we close the conference, we’ll identify the specific items that we intend to practice both individually and collectively as a group, and identify specific commitments for the team to continue the work in the future.

Closing Activity
As we conclude our final day together, you will have space to ask questions of the speakers and connect with other attendees around shared challenges and opportunities.
