Agenda topics are subject to change based on ongoing collaboration between IUI and Academic Impressions. Please revisit this page for updated pre-work and other information in advance of each session.
January 30, 2025 | Bringing Intention into Your Career Advancement
Many academics approach the midcareer stage without a clear vision of what’s next in their career, and their decision-making about which roles and responsibilities to take on is often more opportunistic than intentional. This often leaves them ill-equipped for the demands of these roles or feeling a misalignment between how they spend their time and their professional aspirations. In this meeting, you will reflect on the roles you currently hold, their alignment with your core values, and the implications for identifying next steps in your career.
For the following sessions, dates will be updated soon:
February 2025 | The Five Paths to Leadership℠
Our second session focuses on understanding your leadership strengths and gaps via Academic Impressions’ Five Paths to Leadership℠ Self-Assessment. Its purpose is to help you to understand how your natural leadership style shows up in both normal and stressful situations, and how you can adapt your leadership approach to different situations and people as needed, thus enhancing your leadership effectiveness.
Pre-Work: Participants will take the Five Paths to Leadership℠ Assessment prior to the session.
March 2025 | Leading in Place – Boundary Setting for Work-Life Integration
Work-life integration is key to faculty well-being. Yet, many post-tenure faculty are disheartened to find that aligning their ways of working with their personal values can be difficult as they advance in their career. And for some, that misalignment is a deterrent to moving into leadership. In this meeting, you’ll explore how an outcome-driven approach to prioritization and boundary-setting can help you create room on your calendar for the work that matters and enhance work-life integration.
April 2025 | Faculty Leadership – Myths and Reality
For many faculty, moving into a leadership role often conjures up pictures of sacrifice or dark side. But taking on a faculty leadership role can also be synonymous with opportunities. In this session, we ‘ll debunk some of the myths around faculty leadership and explore meaningful ways faculty leadership can yield impactful engagement at the institution. Additionally, you will explore your own beliefs around moving into a leadership role and identify your pros and cons of becoming a leader.
