Learn how to facilitate this intuitive and powerful assessment for groups on your campus.
Overview
Become a certified practitioner of the Five Paths to Leadership℠ Self-Assessment and bring your expertise to your institution to both support individual learners and facilitate workshops with your campus.
The Five Paths to Leadership℠ Self-Assessment is being used by thousands of faculty and staff in higher education across North America. The magic of the Five Paths is not just deeper self-awareness but its ability to enable more effective interpersonal and team dynamics. The assessment is unique and valuable because:
- It is designed to reflect that leaders must be adaptive—rather than getting fixed scores only on certain paths, the assessment recognizes that you have to lead from all of the paths to be effective.
- It is highly intuitive and practical, and it can be applied to a variety of leadership tasks, including: running more effective meetings, communicating, collaborating, delegating, planning, and making more effective decisions.
- It reveals how your leadership style changes under stress.
What We’ll Cover
More details about the timing of the workshops (online or in-person) can be found by clicking Learn More and Register, but what we’ll cover in each workshop is below:
Situating the Five Paths to Leadership℠
To kick off the experience, we’ll share why the Five Paths to LeadershipSM can be used as a tool for both personal effectiveness and leadership development at all levels from leading others to leading systems.
Understanding the Model
We’ll dive deep into what sets the Five Paths to LeadershipSM apart from other leadership assessments, as well as how the model is structured, how stress plays into the scoring, and how scoring works.
Presenting Each Path
You’ll develop a deeper understanding of the way to present each of the five paths, along with how you can support or manage up to those who have that as their highest path. You’ll have a chance to practice facilitating multiple paths in pairs and in groups so you can become comfortable with how to explain each path and how to answer questions about them.
Understanding the Sage
The Sage can be a confusing path, since it is a practice and not a leadership style. We’ll share a deeper understanding of how the Sage works within the Five Paths to LeadershipSM model, and how practice, reflection, and feedback are the keys to growth as a leader. You’ll reflect on how you would present the Sage and have a chance to practice.
Debriefing Full Scores
Understanding how someone leads from their whole set of scores and not just from their highest path helps them develop a deeper understanding of how to lead in different contexts. We’ll share how paths are in balance or tension with each other so that you can see how to dig into someone’s entire profile. You’ll practice asking questions about an entire profile.
Practicing Your Facilitation
While there is time for practice throughout the training, during the final session, you’ll work in small groups to conduct a whole Five Paths facilitation, applying what you’ve learned from previous sessions. A certified Academic Impressions coach will work with you to provide guidance and feedback.
Certification Process
Attending this event is your first step toward certification. Following the session, you will have:
- Access to three one-on-one coaching sessions with AI staff to provide just-in-time support to help you to prepare, design, and facilitate Five Paths trainings on your own campus.
- The ability to begin delivering workshops on your own campus. Participants will be required to rate your facilitation using an Academic Impressions evaluation form. To receive the certification, you must meet specific benchmarks in terms of your effectiveness (details to be shared at the workshop).
Please note that certification enables you to facilitate Five Paths workshops for as many audiences as you’d like, at the organization of your current employment. Facilitation of the Five Paths to Leadership℠ workshops outside of your organization is expressly prohibited.

How the Five Paths to Leadership℠ Can Be Useful on Your Campus
“I liked how the leadership model is not judgmental and clearly acknowledges that good leadership has no specific definition. I think this will be a helpful tool for Human Resources to assist managers in understanding how to best lead and interact within their units.”
- John Dixon, Chief Human Resources Officer, Eastern Kentucky University
“In a sea of models for leadership training, we chose the Five Paths model due to it being relatable and practical. This thought provoking, practical, and applied learning program is guided by expert, certified Five Paths trainers. A must for any organization struggling with leadership.”
- Sean Griffin, Learning & Development Partner, Dallas College
“Being certified as a Five Paths for Leadership facilitator has allowed me to provide meaningful deep dive conversations with teams of 5, as well as large format workshops of 120, and everything in between. I love applying the Five Paths model to the design and implementation of meetings, since it brings awareness to our default meeting preferences, and where our blind spots might be.”
- Sierra Dawson, Associate Vice Provost for Faculty and Leadership Development, University of Oregon
