Dr. Ann Hill Duin

Ann Hill Duin, Ph.D. is a seasoned academic administrator and distinguished scholar and faculty member with over thirty years of classroom experience (both physical and virtual). Having pioneered her university’s first online course at the graduate level, she continues to study the impact of emerging technologies–including learning analytics and networked learning–on the future of teaching/learning and higher education. As a professor of writing studies at the University of Minnesota, she studies the language and transactions that occur through networks of individuals engaged in mutually supportive, collaborative work. Her ongoing goal is to serve as a catalyst for creating the future of the academy, and her commitment to shared leadership has resulted in collective vision and action: a virtual university, a new college, active learning classrooms, business intelligence/academic analytics initiatives, and numerous inter-institutional partnerships.

Dr. Hill Duin has over fifteen years of experience at major research universities in a variety of administrative roles, including interim vice president and CIO, deputy CIO, senior associate dean, vice provost for instructional technology and university partnerships, and associate provost and director of continuing education and communications services. In these roles, she provided forward-looking leadership in deploying and leveraging technology to advance teaching, research, and academic support function at the University of Minnesota and Iowa State University.
